Are your potter's wheels really made in France?
Yes. Louise and Rosa are assembled in our workshop in Aucamville (Tarn-et-Garonne). The 550 W motor is supplied by IMO Jeambrun (France), the Ø295 mm aluminium wheel-head is cast by Fonderie de Roanne (France), and the metal structure is machined and welded on site. A few standard components (variable-speed controller, bearings) come from the European trade.
What is the lead time for a Louise or Rosa wheel?
About one month from order. Every wheel is built to order — we hold no idle stock, which also enables customisation (colour, wheel-head options).
What is the difference between Louise and Rosa?
Rosa is a Louise wheel fitted with an integrated seat (welded steel frame, varnished wooden seat) for long throwing sessions. The mechanics are identical: same 550 W IMO Jeambrun motor, same Ø295 mm wheel-head, same 0–290 rpm variable-speed controller, same stainless-steel shaft. Louise weighs 35 kg and costs €1449 incl. tax; Rosa weighs 45 kg and costs €1559 incl. tax.
Are the wheels repairable? Do you sell spare parts?
Yes, that is a design choice. The wheels are fully dismountable (standard metric screws, 13 mm spanner supplied), the critical components (motor, controller, bearings) are off-the-shelf and replaceable, and we sell most parts (wheel-head, pedal, splash pan, bats) individually in our shop.
Are your accessories compatible with Shimpo wheels?
Yes. The Ø295 mm aluminium wheel-head fits Shimpo wheels and COMUA wheels. The pedal (0–10 V potentiometer) is compatible with most wheels on the market — if you are unsure about your specific model, contact us.
Where can I buy a replacement pedal, wheel-head, splash pan or batt for a potter's wheel?
Directly from our shop: we sell the wheel-head (Ø295 mm aluminium, fits Shimpo and COMUA), the pedal (0–10 V potentiometer, fits most wheels on the market), the splash pan (Ø398 mm) and the film-coated wooden batt individually, as replacement spare parts. You do not need to have bought a wheel from us — these accessories fit most potter's wheels (Shimpo in particular). If you are unsure about compatibility with your model, contact us before ordering.
Are the Louise plans really open source?
Yes. The complete FreeCAD plans are published on GitHub: https://github.com/comuafr/Louise. The licence authorises personal non-commercial use — building your own wheel for yourself or sharing the plans for educational purposes.
Are the wheels suitable for use in schools or training?
Yes — the wheels are designed for intensive professional use. The reversible rotation, progressive variable-speed control and robust construction make them well suited to teaching workshops. For quantity orders (art-school equipment, community workshops), contact us for a quote.
How is delivery handled for a 35 kg or 45 kg wheel?
For light accessories (wheel-head, pedal, splash pan, bats), delivery is via standard parcel services. For Louise (35 kg) and Rosa (45 kg) wheels, the weight and size exceed standard relay-point limits: delivery is by specialised freight or pickup at the workshop. Contact us for a quote.
What warranty do you offer on the wheels?
Statutory conformity warranty (2 years) on top of spare-parts availability over the lifetime of the wheel. The IMO Jeambrun motor and the standard components (controller, bearings) have their own manufacturer warranties.
Do you take machining or welding work to order (outside potter's wheels)?
Yes. We accept orders for precision conventional machining (turning, milling, accuracy to 1/100 mm) and welding/metalwork (TIG, MIG/MAG, arc) on steel and stainless, in one-off parts or small batches. See our /machining and /welding pages.
Do you weld aluminium?
No, not for welding. Aluminium requires a dedicated station and specific expertise that we do not have in-house. Aluminium parts (wheel-heads) are cast by our partner Fonderie de Roanne.
Can the wheel's colour or options be customised?
Yes, at no extra cost on the order. Custom colour, removable lug wheel-head, and wood bats to specific dimensions are offered free of charge. Specify your preferences at order time or contact us beforehand.
